Since starting my Elevator Pitch
Coaching programs earlier this year, one of the most frequent questions I get is
what exactly made me want to start this service?
That's an easy question to answer. One
of my favorite things I enjoy doing is helping business professionals pinpoint
exactly what makes them special, and then showing them how they can shine with
that specialty. At Brightfarm, we had already been doing this through our Video
Shorts, but I realized there was a much bigger need for people to TELL people
what makes them special on a daily basis.
Wouldn't
you agree that it can be very frustrating to introduce yourself to someone new,
only to have them simply categorize you or pigeon-hole you into an industry?
Example: "Oh, you're a realtor!" While that may be true, there is SO much more
to who you are and what you do! Don't you wish that instead of that happening,
that the person would GET what it is that you do? That they would understand
that no, you're not just a realtor, you're so much more?
The key to overcoming that problem is to remember to
include your specialty. In my coaching programs I talk about giving
RESULTS in your elevator pitch. It's one thing to solve a problem a business
professional or consumer might have, but in order for someone to choose YOU as
someone to solve that problem, they need to know exactly why YOU are special and
they need to know specific results they are going to get by choosing to work
with you.
Here are
a few questions to ask yourself, when determining what your specialty is, so
that you can work it into your elevator
pitch:
1. If
someone chooses to work with YOU, what specific results will
they get from YOU?
2. How
are you different from your
competition?
3. What
are you known
for?
4. Why
have most of your past customers chosen you over your
competition?
5. What
do you do best?
Spend
some good time on these questions and you'll see your specialty bubble up to the
surface. Then, take action by incorporating it into your elevator pitch.
You'll soon see that people will begin to understand what makes you special, and
that will naturally attract them to want to do business with
you.
